Welcome
Thank you for visiting my website, Lessons on Linen. Lessons on Linen started as a blog that I have been writing since 2012. I had enjoyed reading different blogs when they first became popular, and I thought that I would enjoy it as well. What began as a way to showcase what I was stitching became much more personal as the blog truly became a diary for myself to look back on the projects I have worked on as well as a chronicle of passing time. I write in my online diary about anything to do with a needle: embroidery, cross-stitch, quilting, garment sewing, needlepoint, wool applique, and I am going to also chronicle my journey through fashion school.

My love of embroidery began when I was very, very young, around 7 years old when I was shown how to do a stamped cross-stitch by my mom. When I was a little older, my grandmother showed me basic embroidery stitches. I remember so clearly sitting on the living room floor while she showed me how to backstitch with olive green embroidery floss to create the stem of a flower. I have been embroidering ever since, and when I was in my teens began gathering a collection of embroidery books, that I still treasure. I also began to teach myself quilting and simple garment sewing during this time.
Stitching became my quiet, secret pastime for much of my life and was always something I would always turn to provide comfort,. Picking up a needle and thread always felt like a safe haven whenever I needed it. Over time, I began to expand the repertoire of projects and what kinds of creations I was working on. I began garment sewing much more seriously and also improve my level of quilting. I branched out into taking lots of different classes and intentionally trying to improve my skills. My confidence grew, and I developed some original patterns and designs.

As I was enjoying my hobby, my memories of a long ago dream of working in the fashion industry was something that I couldn't ignore anymore. I decided to take one of the biggest and scariest leaps I have ever taken. And while it took almost seven years of strategizing and planning, I finally began my journey to work in the fashion industry. This has involved saying a hard goodbye to a career that never really suited me and entering a new world. I enrolled in a fashion merchandising and design program. One of my concentrations is product development, which has been instrumental in all of my creations related to needlework. I feel so fortunate to have this opportunity, which had its beginnings in this little corner of the internet called Lessons on Linen.
