stitching slump

20210606_092203
I experienced a stitching slump during the last month or so.  I don't recall it ever happening before, and it is kind of a lousy feeling.  You want to work on things, and see all the fun projects on instagram, flosstube, etc., but you just can't seem to get out of the slump of not stitching anything.  I was finally able to get out of this the last week or so, and I wanted to share some tips that helped:

1.  Rediscovering stash                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         I have a lot of projects already kitted, and also all of my patterns are organized in binders.  Looking through and 'shopping' through my stash has been really helpful for finding inspiration and maybe also picking out a new project to start.

2.  Organizing stash                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Organizing your stash really helps with not feeling so overwhelmed by projects you have that are half finished, or that you have barely started.  Sometimes organizing your materials can be like a rediscovery.  Also, you may realize there's a project that is closer to being finished than you thought!

3.  Do something you haven't done in a long time                                                                                                                                                                                          I really love doing English paper piecing, and hadn't done in it in a long time.  I started working on a random EPP project that I had wanted to just try and practice.  Once I felt the creative ideas flowing and enjoyed picking up a needle again, I noticed that I really wanted to work on other stitching.

4.  Start something new                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Sometimes starting something new is all you need to get back into working on projects.  There is something so fun about a new project and getting really into it.  The might lead to inspiration to work on other projects.

I hope that some of these ideas are helpful to anyone trying to get back into their stitching again.  It can be a challenge to pick something back up again even thought it is something that you enjoy.
